Sussex County Habitat for Humanity
Building Houses... Building Hope
|
Dear Sussex County Habitat Supporter,
Thank you for the privilege of allowing us to correspond with you via email. We are starting this newsletter to keep you informed about what we are doing. We also have a ReStore Newsletter, where you can find out about specials on gently used building materials or household furnishings. Check out our Construction Newsletter as well where you can learn about opportunities to help us build. You can sign up for any of these newsletters, or unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of this email. Please feel free to share our efforts with friends and family by forwarding our email to them too!
Building Projects
We are currently building 3 new homes in Sussex County. Read more about our current projects below. We have a great construction crew, but to continue building, we need funding so we can purchase materials to build these houses ASAP quickly for deserving families in our community.
Our Home Repairs Crew completely renovated the lower level of a home in Vernon for a family whose son was severely injured in a car accident. The home was made wheelchair compatible so that the young man can live with his family rather than in an out-of-county nursing facility. We also replaced the roofs on three other homes that had major leaks and were not safe for the families and the contents of their home.
Gifts for Habitat
Do you have someone on your Christmas list that has everything? Do you need a stocking stuffer for someone special? Please consider making a donation to Habitat in their name. You will receive a tax deduction for your donation, and we will send a card saying that a donation was made to Habitat on their behalf. What a wonderful way to give during the holiday season. If you can afford to donate this year, please do. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Your donation will help us continue to build these homes.
Habitat for Humanity ReStore
We have been blessed this year with a number of donations of gently used kitchen cabinets, bedroom and dining room sets, and washing machines. We also have lots of doors, windows and lighting fixtures. Please go to our website to see what we are selling at http://sussexcountyhfh.org/restore.html . Our prices are terrific and all profits go to our building projects to help families into a home of their own.

Stanhope 4-Plex
We are halfway through completing a house for four families in Stanhope. We are partnering with Morris County Habitat on this project, and we are learning much from their experience. We are still looking for low-income families to fill these units. If you know a family in need, please email us at sussexcountyhfh@yahoo.com or check our website for details.

Hopatcong
The foundation is in place and we are now starting to frame this single family house in Hopatcong.

Stillwater
We will be breaking ground for a new home in Stillwater, NJ next year. The land was generously donated by Stillwater Township. We need to complete the Stanhope project before starting work here, partly because of the winter season, but mostly because we are quickly running out of funds and we need donations!
Outreach
If you would like a speaker for your church or civic group please let us know. Our Outreach Committee will be glad to address your group and share what we are doing right here in Sussex County
Fundraising
We are deeply grateful for the donations we have received. Local churches and schools in Sussex County have held fundraisers and blessed us with monetary help this year. We also received a very generous donation from the Hudson Guild Farm. We need volunteers to help us step up our fundraising efforts in the new year. If you would like to volunteer please send us an email.

Sparta High School Habitat for Humanity Chapter held a wonderful Wine Tasting Party at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club. The event was elegant; the prizes were awesome; and a great time was had by all. Aiden DeSena, President and Founder of the Sparta High School Habitat For Humanity Chapter and some of the students from the chapter worked extremely hard at making this event a success. The students raised over $3000. We look forward to the 2nd Annual Wine Tasting in March 2010.
